Make the Bed
Making your bed is fairly quick and easy task but is a crucial part of the cleaning process. Having a nicely made bed gives the impression that the entire room is clean and well-kept. Do this first before moving on to other chores. Making the bed will allow you to feel much better about the way your room looks and will also provide you with a clean surface to set laundry or other items on when continuing your other chores.

Surface Clean
When cleaning in a hurry, you cannot spend time on the details. Surface cleaning the counters in your house will do wonders to make your kitchen and bathroom look neat and orderly. Simply dust and wipe down all counter space, clearing off clutter as you go. If you’re anything like me, your kitchen counter is full of junk mail and food prep items. You may want to grab an empty box or laundry basket to toss these items in, if you do not have time to sort them. Just make sure to come back to those items as soon as your guest leave!

Address the Floors
Do not forget to address the floors. Be sure to sweep and vacuum, if you do nothing else! A dirty floor is extremely noticeable and seeing vacuum lines on a carpet immediately gives your guests the feeling of “Wow, this house is clean!”.

Freshen Up
While your house may be dirty, it doesn’t have to smell like it! Take 5 minutes to freshen up each room. Light some candles, or spray some air freshener. Having a house that smells good, not only disguises dirt but also creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes guests feel at home.

Clean What You See
Last but not least, clean what you see. Your guests are not going to inspect every corner of your house for cleanliness, but chances are, whatever catches your eye, will catch theirs too. Make one final sweep around your house picking up out-of-place items when you see them.

1. Study Up
Perhaps the most important thing to do before making any move is to study up on the area in which you plan to relocate. What is the weather like? Will we have neighbors? These questions may seem simple, but are extremely important in determining what to pack, what to donate and what to leave behind.

2. Sort
Prior to packing up, take the time to take a detailed inventory of your household items and decor. Start sorting through your belongings and make thoughtful decisions on what should be packed up and what should be thrown away or donated. Sort and pack the items you plan to keep and label them based on which room they will live in your new place. The more detailed you can get the better. For instance, instead of placing your food seasonings in a box that says “Kitchen” consider writing “Pantry,” or “Kitchen Cabinet” on the box if you don’t have a pantry.

3. Start Early
When it comes to your move, starting early is a must! Waiting until the last minute to organize and pack up your belongings could cause your move to become extremely chaotic. If you know you have a little time before your move, turn up the tunes and pack one or two boxes every day until you’re ready to hit the road. Getting this kind of head start will ensure that important items like legal documents and heirlooms are not lost in the relocation. Remember, procrastination when packing is detrimental (and will make you grumpy).

4. Stay Focused
Once you’ve made the move and unloaded your belongings, make sure to stay focused on organization. Simply throwing things into your new house will inevitably lead to stress later down the road. By unpacking each box individually, you will be able to check for lost or damaged items. To ensure you stay organized and stress-free in your new home, take the time to go room-by-room and put everything in its proper place before moving on.

2. Check the date and toss.
Too often, women become certified beauty product junkies. To get rid of the clutter in your bathroom, you first have to check a few labels. Just like medicine, beauty products have expiration dates- most makeup expires after 6 months. Any product near the eyes (mascara, creams etc.) lasts about 4 months, body lotions can last close to 1 year and perfumes are good for up to 3 years. Toss out everything that’s out of date to make room for the newest seasonal scents!

3. Box up your gadgets.
Some of the biggest clutter culprits in your kitchens call the drawers their home. Find a large, clean cardboard box and dump the contents of your gadget drawer. Over the next month, return every gadget you used back to its designated drawer.
